Thunder always shows up uninvited

Posted 10/7/2026

There's a law of the universe that nobody talks about enough — the worse your morning schedule, the louder the storm outside.

Big meeting at 8am? Thunder. Early dentist appointment you've been dreading? Double thunder. A morning packed with errands that requires actual functioning as a human? Full cinematic storm with lightning, dramatic wind, and possibly a rogue raccoon knocking over your recycling bin.

It's not bad luck. It's not the universe being dramatic. It's just that storms feel enormous when your brain is still buffering. When you're half-asleep and staring at a grey sky through the window, everything gets amplified — the noise, the chaos, the existential question of whether you really need to leave the house at all.

And that's where the whole thing starts to make sense. Storms don't actually get bigger on important days. Your tolerance for nonsense just gets smaller when you haven't had coffee yet. The thunder isn't louder. You're just less equipped to deal with it.

Coffee doesn't fix the weather, obviously. But it does recalibrate your relationship with it. Suddenly the thunder is just background noise instead of a personal attack. The rain becomes atmospheric instead of catastrophic. You go from "why is this happening to me" to "huh, kind of moody out there."
